Pergola questions
How is the price of a retractable pergola worked out?
Each pergola is made to measure, so the price depends on the system, width, projection and options such as LED, screens or glass. We survey for free and send a written quote with fitting and VAT included. Humm finance is available.
Is the fabric roof really waterproof?
Yes. With the roof closed, rain runs into the gutter at the front and side gaskets seal the edges.
What about wind?
The Square pergola has Class 3 wind resistance. A wind sensor retracts the roof automatically when gusts get too strong.
Do you install in my county?
Yes, nationwide — recent projects in Dublin, Kildare and Galway.
Professional Pergola Installation & Warranty
Every GardenZone pergola includes a free survey, a made-to-measure design, foundations and fitting by our own installers anywhere in Ireland, and aftercare.
Retractable pergolas in Ireland, made to measure
A retractable pergola has a waterproof fabric roof that runs out and back on a motor, so you get open sky on sunny days and a dry roof in minutes when the rain comes. Our Square range spans up to 9 m wide and 7 m projection, with no middle post up to 6 m wide, and is rated Class 3 for wind and rain.
Wall-mounted or free-standing pergolas
Fix the pergola to the house wall on two front posts, or stand it on four posts anywhere in the garden. Low-profile versions suit bungalows and low walls, and double-roof systems cover large terraces, restaurants and hotel gardens.
Screens, glass, lighting and heating
Add ZIP side screens against wind and low sun, sliding glass walls to create a garden room, spot LED lighting and infrared heaters for evenings outside. Rain and wind sensors close the roof automatically.
Retractable or bioclimatic pergola?
Both keep you dry. A retractable pergola opens fully to the sky and spans wider without posts; a bioclimatic pergola has tilting aluminium louvres and a solid feel for an all-year outdoor room. Pricing depends on the system, size and options, and Humm finance is available.
Retractable pergola FAQs
How long does a retractable pergola last in Irish weather?
The frame is powder-coated aluminium, so it does not rust, rot or need painting. The roof is a heavy PVC-coated membrane made for outdoor use, and the motor is sealed against rain. With a simple clean once or twice a year a retractable pergola gives many years of service, and the roof fabric can be replaced later without changing the frame.
Can I leave the roof closed in rain and wind?
Yes. The roof is waterproof and rain runs into gutters built into the frame and down through the posts. In very strong wind the roof should be retracted, and the optional wind sensor does this for you automatically.
Do I need foundations?
Each post stands on a concrete pad, or is bolted to an existing patio if the slab is strong enough. We check this at the free survey and include the foundations in your quote.
How long does installation take?
Most home pergolas are fitted in one to two days by our own team. Larger commercial pergolas with several modules take longer and are planned around your opening hours.
Can a pergola be fitted to a bungalow or a low wall?
Yes. Low-profile models are designed for low eaves, and a freestanding pergola on four posts needs no wall at all.
Aluminium pergola or pergola kit?
Flat-pack pergola kits come in fixed sizes and are rarely built for Irish wind and rain. A made-to-measure aluminium pergola is designed for your patio, engineered for wind and snow loads and installed by our own team, with a warranty.
Retractable pergolas for pubs, restaurants and hotels
A retractable pergola is a popular way to cover a beer garden or a restaurant terrace. Modules join side by side to cover long areas, the roof opens fully on summer evenings, and side screens and heaters keep the space in use through spring and autumn. We work directly with venue owners and with contractors and fit-out companies on larger projects.
Where do you install pergolas?
We supply and fit pergolas across Ireland, including Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Cavan, Westmeath, Waterford and Kilkenny. Send us the width and depth of your patio for a free survey and a fixed quote.
