Project: A Bioclimatic Pergola That Turns the Patio into an Outdoor Room
This family had a lovely curved patio right outside their sliding doors, with a view over the garden. What it lacked was shelter. On a sunny day it was too bright, and on a wet day nobody went out at all. A bioclimatic pergola solved both.

What we installed
Anthracite aluminium frame to match the window and door frames of the house
Rotating aluminium louvres, white underneath to keep the space bright
Warm LED light line running around the inside of the frame
Four slim posts fixed to the patio, positioned so the pergola sits neatly beside the house and the sliding doors open straight underneath
Why a bioclimatic pergola suits an Irish patio
You control the sun. Tilt the louvres to let light through, or close them for full shade on a hot day.
You control the rain. Closed louvres form a watertight roof, and rainwater drains away through the frame and posts.
Fresh air without draughts. Partly open louvres let warm air escape, so the space stays comfortable in summer.
It works in the evening too. The built-in LED light line gives a soft, warm glow – no cables across the patio.
Make it an all-year room
The pergola can be extended later with:
Screen blinds on the sides against wind and for privacy
Infrared heaters in the beams for cooler evenings
Sliding glass to close it in completely
Planning your own pergola
Every pergola we fit is made to measure. Send us a photo of your patio and rough sizes, and we will come back with options, a visual and a fitted price.
