Project
Creating outdoor spaces that work in every season is no longer a luxury—it’s an expectation. This recently completed project featuring the SB400 bioclimatic pergola with sliding glass system is a strong example of how a standard patio can be transformed into a fully functional, all-weather living area.
Project Overview
For this installation, the client wanted a solution that would:
Provide shelter from Irish weather
Extend usable space throughout the year
Maintain a clean, modern look aligned with their home
The result is a wall-mounted SB400 pergola in white, complemented by sliding glass panels on two sides, creating a bright, enclosed space without sacrificing openness.
Why the SB400?
The SB400 is one of the most versatile systems we offer. It balances durability, aesthetics, and functionality.
Key features include:
Motorised aluminium louvres (adjustable for sun, shade, and ventilation)
Fully waterproof roof when closed
Integrated drainage system hidden within the structure
Strong aluminium construction designed for wind resistance
Minimal maintenance compared to traditional glass roofs
Unlike fixed glass roofs, the adjustable louvre system gives full control over light and airflow—making it far more practical for changing conditions.
Sliding Glass – Turning It Into an Outdoor Room
The addition of sliding glass panels takes the pergola to another level.
Benefits:
Protection from wind and rain
Retains heat, making the space usable even in colder months
Maintains visibility and natural light
Flexible opening system for summer use
This combination effectively creates an outdoor room, ideal for dining, relaxing, or entertaining.
Drainage & Practical Considerations
A common question with covered structures is water management.
In the SB400:
Water is channelled through integrated internal gutters
It is then directed down through the support posts
No visible pipes or uncontrolled runoff
This is a key advantage over traditional glass roof systems, where water typically runs off externally and requires more visible drainage planning.
Installation Notes
For projects like this, timing and sequencing matter:
The pergola is installed first
Sliding glass is measured and fitted afterwards for precision
Ground levels (patio height) should be planned in advance to align perfectly with the structure
This ensures a clean finish and proper operation of all elements.
The End Result
The finished space is:
Fully usable in all weather conditions
Visually integrated with the house
Low-maintenance and durable
A clear upgrade in both lifestyle and property value
Thinking About a Similar Project?
If you’re considering a pergola, the key factors to define early are:
Size and layout
Wall-mounted vs freestanding
Level of enclosure (open / blinds / glass)
The SB400 with sliding glass is one of the most complete solutions available for residential and commercial use.
